Diaper Care

When you receive your diapers, wash the shells and the inserts on a normal cycle, with detergent, using cold or warm water. Hang to dry or use your dryer on it's lowest temperature setting. Once clean and dry you can keep the inserts and shells separate (less bulky for storage and on the go), or, for quicker changes, you can pre-stuff the pocket with the insert.

Avoid overstretching the elastic. Store flat. Do not use the high heat setting on your dryer. Hanging to dry can be a preferred method (energy savings; the sun treats staining and odors; it's gentler on the diaper materials). Fold the diaper over your clothesline with the white fleece center exposed to the sun. This prevents unnecessary tension on the elastics.

With proper care, Lovely Pocket Diapers can last from birth through potty training and then be resold or passed on. A climate controlled environment extends the life of the diaper.

Dirty Diapers

Wash Routine

Store dirty diapers in an empty pail with a liner.

Once formula or solid foods are introduced, poo diapers will need to be rinsed or scraped (unless you're using disposable liners) before going into the pail. Remove the insert from the pocket before adding the soiled diaper to the pail. When it's time to wash (frequency will depend on the number of diapers in your stash. In general, anticipate diaper laundry every 1-3 days), simply dump the contents of the pail liner into your washing machine and add it to the load.

Use a quality detergent (products specifically made for cloth diapers are not necessary). You will run each load through 2 cycles: The first will be a "prewash" using the shortest, coldest settings on your machine., with as much laundry soap as is recommended for the smallest load. For the second cycle, you will add a large load portion of detergent to the washing machine and change the settings to the longest, hottest wash. Once complete, your diapers and inserts will be ready for drying.

For diaper changes on the go, make sure to have a wet bag in your diaper bag. Similar to pail liners, these smaller, zippered bags will keep dirty diapers safely contained until they can be added to the diaper pail at home.

TIP: If a diaper cream is need, look online for a list of "cloth safe" brands. Certain ingredients can cause staining, odors, and repelling on the inner microfleece layer. Disposable liners can be used if needed or desired.

Toddlers

Versitility

Lovely Pocket one-size Diapers continue to adjust as your little one grows. They are meant to accommodate your child up to approximately 30 pounds (the weight of an average 3 year old).

These diapers can be used without an insert during the potty training process.

For "heavy wetters" and longer stretches between diaper changes, an additional insert can be added either inside the pocket or between baby and the inner liner.

TIP: The diaper shell (minus the insert) can be used as a swim diaper. To avoid fading caused by chlorine, I recommend using the white diaper.

Outer Materials

The Shell

An empty diaper or "unstuffed" diaper (one with no insert) is referred to as the diaper shell. For a pocket diaper, the shell and the insert(s) must be washed after each use.

The outer fabric is an absorbent polyester material, lined on the reverse side with a waterproofing material (known as "PUL").

With proper care, your colors and patterns won't fade.

Inner Materials

Comfort & Function

The inner layer of Lovely Pocket Diapers is made from soft, white, microfleece. This material is gentle on baby's delicate skin and allows liquid to pass through to the insert, keeping baby dry.

The "pocket" is created by the space between the outer and inner diaper layers with an opening at the top for tucking the diaper insert between the inner and outer layers of the diaper shell.

Each diaper comes with one microfiber insert (pictured here, laying on top of the open diaper shell). Microfiber is highly absorbent and can only be used inside the pocket where it is not in direct contact with baby's skin.

Inserts that are made from natural fibers (such as charcoal and bamboo) can safely be used either inside the pocket or between baby and the diaper.

More than one insert can be used at a time based on personal preference.

Cloth Wipes

Choosing to use cloth wipes can simplify diaper changes. All you need is a little water to moisten the fabric. Toss used wipes into the diaper pail.
